Kellohelmainen farkkumekko - Clock hem denim dress

Enimmäkseen punaista meillä tytöillä - Mostly dress for girls
Etupuoli - The front

Takapuoli - The back
Olen aivan rakastunut kellohelmoihin.

Mukavaa alkavaa viikkoa lukijoille! Nauttikaa syksyn väreistä ja toistaiseksi lämpöisenä pysyneestä säästä. :)

Coatsin vahvaa tikkauslankaa - The strong thread by Coats

I've totally fallen in love with clock hems! My previous sewing project was a red clock skirt and during that project I started dreaming of a clock skirt made of denim. However, I made a dress. Today I bought Finland's Elle magazine and I noticed especially Christian Dior has used clock hems in his fall 2013 collection.

I bought this fabric a week ago and the saleswoman had really good tips for me. Firstly, I would've taken 2 meters denim but the saleswoman's opinion was 1,5m and it was just enough! :) Secondly, it was her idea to use stronger thread and make decoration stitches.

The top of the dress is kind of a corset and I made it by editing Burda 4/2013 magazines model number 116. When the dress was almost finished, I sewed the decoration stitches. First I sewed only one line zigzag but then my husband - surprisingly! - suggested to add one more line. It was a really good suggestion. I have to ask for his ideas some other time too.

I'm going to wear this dress in autumn with a shirt under it. It will be fun to try different colours with it. Next summer I can wear it as a summerdress. I wish you all nice start of the week! Enjoy the colours of autumn. :)

  1. Gorgeous dress: with denim you can't go wrong and, paired with double row (thanks hubby!) of red zig zag.... is amazing!
    I bet you'll use it a lot!

    1. Thanks! I just don't know if I use the strong thread again because my sewing machine didn't really like it.. :/ At least I heard strange noises and at some point the stitch looked on the reverse side.
