2 paitaa "Tyttölintu" -aplikoinnilla - 2 shirts with "Girly Bird" -appliqué

Kylläpäs viime postausksesta on aikaa! Joulukuussa tuli kuitenkin ommeltua tosi paljon, nimittäin joululahjoja: ompelin pipot 3 veljenpojalle, puserot omalle äidille sekä anopille ja olohousut miehelleni. Ajattelin jättää ne esittelemättä täällä. Tai siis muistin, että niistä olisi voinut ottaa kuvat vasta, kun ne oli kääritty joulupaperiin. Tyypillistä minua.

Tämä vuoden alku on ollut kiireinen, koska aloitin opiskelun ammattikorkeakoulussa ja lapset menivät ensimmäistä kertaa päiväkotiin. Toivottavasti kohta olisi taas aikaa ommella. Yhden kangasmetrin kävin alesta ostamassa sentään!

Idea näihin paitoihin tuli tytöiltä itseltään: He halusivat Tyttölintu -kuvan. Sitä olikin kiva hahmotella muutama ilta. Aplikointiin käytin trikoo- ja velourtilkkuja. Mitäs pidätte?

Oh, it's been a while since the last sewing post! However, I sewed a lot in December: I sewed Christmas presents - 3 hats for my nephews, 2 blouses for my mom and my mother-in-law and cozy pants for my husband. And when I had them into Christmas paper I remember I should've taken pictures of them... oops.

The beginning of this year has been busy as well. Started studying and my daughters went to the kindergarten for the first time. They turn soon 3 and 4. I wish I had more time for sewing...

The idea of these shirts came from my daughters: They simply wanted Girly Bird images on them. I sketched it for a few nights and it was a great fun! I used some remaining tricot pieces for the appliqué. How do you like the shirts?

Isoäidin pitsinauhalla somistettu farkkumekko - A denim Dress decorated with Grandma's Lace

Olin tosi onnekas löytäessäni Fida-kirpparilta noin 2m palan tosi vahvaa farkkukangasta. Niin isoja paloja harvoin löytyy kirppareilta. Halusin alun perin jo tehdä siitä itselleni mekon, mutta lopullisen mallin päättämiseen meni aikaa.

Noin kuukausi sitten sain isältäni isoäitini vanhoja käsitöitä, joista osan annoin äidilleni. Osa oli keskeneräisiä, joten ajattelin, että äitini ehkä osaisi tehdä ne loppuun. Itse pidin isot kerät nyplättyjä pitsejä. (en tiedä paljoakaan pitsinnypläyksestä, mutta eräs kommentoija sanoi, että voi viedä jopa tunnin 1-2cm kohti!) Farkkumekon malli ratkesi oikeastaan pitsien käyttökohdetta miettiessä. Hoksasin, että pitsi näyttää kauniilta farkun kanssa, joten sitten etsin Burda Style-lehdistä sellaisen mallin, jossa pitsin saisi hyvin esille.

Ompelin pitsit haluamiini kohtiin tikkaamalla sekä ylä- että alareunan. Leikatut reunat siksakkasin huolellisesti, etteivät ne ne ala purkautua. Burdan mallista poiketen laitoin metallivetoketjun eteen hyvin näkyville. Myös helma on hieman erilainen kuin Burdan mallissa. Olkaimia haluan erityisesti hehkuttaa: Niissä on ulkoreunoissa pienet laskokset, jotka tekevät olkaimesta olkapäätä mukailevan.

Tykkään tästä mekosta tosi paljon juuri pitsiyksityiskohtien takia ja tekisi mieli yhdistellä pitsiä samalla tavalla joissakin muissakin ompeluksissa. Isoäitini on tehnyt ison työn kun on nyplännyt noin kamalan kauniita pitsinauhoja! <3

I was very lucky to find a big (about 2m) piece of strong denim in a 2nd hand shop. Usually there are only small fabric pieces there. Right away, my decision was to make a dress - deciding the model took more time.

About a month ago my dad brought me a box containing my grandma's finished and unfinished crafts. The unfinished ones I gave to my mom - maybe she could finish them. However, there were very beautiful lace bands and I wanted to keep them. When I tried to figure out what to do with them, the idea of this dress came accidentally to my mind.

I stitched the lace on the denim and used zig-zag in the cut edges to prevent fraying. The straps are especially nice: there are little pleats on the outer border and it makes the strap adapt the shape of the shoulder.

I really like this dress and it's especially because of the lace details. I would like to use this same technigue with other sewing projects too. My grandma has really made beautiful lace bands! <3

Syksyn ja talven luottohatut lapsille - The best autumn/winter Hats for kids

Muistattekin varmaan kissamaiset hatut, jotka tein aplikointitekniikalla? Ne olivat vielä aika kesäiset, joten syyslomareissuamme varten tein vähän talvisemmat, mutta muuten aika samanhenkiset kissahatut pinkistä fleecestä. Eurokankaan Elefantti-trikoosta tein myös villeille vipeltäjille sopivat hapsupipot. Molemmat pipot sopivat hyvin talvisempaankin keliin, koska ne peittävät korvat, niissä on vuori ja allehan voi sujauttaa vaikka kypärämyssyn.

Olen vähän suunnitellut ohjeen tekemistä hapsupiposta, olisiko sille kiinnostusta?

Nyt pitäisi viimeistään alkaa suunnitella joulahjojakin - ainakin niitä, mitkä meinaa itse ommella. Kuulemisiin!

I think some of you remember the catty hats? Those were not made for cold weather, so I made a warmer version of the catty hat for our autumn trip. The warmer version is made of fleece and the linging is tricot so as the appliques.

Active and happy kids were my inspiration when I made the tricot hats with fringe. The colorful print and the swinging fringe portrait kids in a funny way!

Both hats are suitable for winter because they cover ears well, they have lining and when it's really cold you can use balaclava (hope it's a right word!) under the hat.

I've been planning a tutorial of the fringe hat, would it be a good idea?

I should also start planning the Christmas gifts - I mean those that I'm going to sew!

Värikäs mekko arkimenoihin - My Colorful & Casual Dress

Uusi mekko, ihanaa! - New dress, happyhappy!

Anteeksi hyvät ihmiset, kun ei ole tullut yhtään juttua tänne moneen viikkoon! On ollut syyslomaa ja kaikenlaista muuta erikoisempaa menoa. Ommellut olen tosin paljonkin, mutta tietokonetta vain on ollut vaikeuksia saada avatuksi (onhan se ihan hyväkin toisaalta :) ). Nyt siis ennenkuin aloitan mitään seuraavaa projektia, yritän saada monesta uudesta ompeluksesta postauksen tehdyksi!

Tämän mekon ompelin oikeastaan syyslomareissua varten, koska halusin jotain värikästä mustan takin kaveriksi. Eurokankaan palalaarista löytyi tämä puuvillatrikoo ja käytin ihan yläosan peruskaavaa Joka tyypin kaavakirjasta ja pidensin sitä A-linjaisesti mekkopituiseksi. Tosin kaula-aukon kaitaleen, joka jatkuu solmimisnauhoina, keksin ja toteutin ihan ilman kaavaa. Solmimisnauhojen päihin leikkarin hapsuja, koska se trikoon kohdalla oli mahdollista. Hihat ovat minulle tyypilliseen tapaan 3/4 -pituiset.

Tämä mekko pääsi heti kovaan käyttöön ja puuvillatrikoo on ihanan miellyttävä materiaalina. Värien käyttöä vaatetuksessa yritän vain lisätä, koska se piristää itseäni ja luultavasti muitakin. Mustia vaatteita on ihan liikaa!

Nyt lupaan postailla uutta vähän tiheämmin kuin viime aikoina. Hauskaa viikkoa kaikille! :)

My readers, I am sorry for not having written anything in this blog for weeks! Lately I have had some special things in my life such as autumn holiday which I spent in the Southern Finland with my kids. I have been sewing a lot, though. I just haven't been on the mood to turn on the computer and make a blog post. It's good to be away from the computer sometimes... :) Before I can start anything new I have to make posts of the little pile of finished sewing projects.

I wanted to have a new and colorful dress for our autumn holiday trip. This fabric is cotton tricot so it is perfect for a casual dress. So comfortable! The pattern was the simplest it can be: I lenghtened the pattern of a basic top. The bands in the neckline were my own idea and in the end I cut some fringe in them - it works well with tricot. The sleeves are like in my garments typically: 3/4 -sleeves!

I have already woren this dress a lot. It feels so good and the colors cheer me up. I am trying to use more and more colorful clothes because I'm tired of black! It's an easy but boring choice.

Ompeluohje: Aplikoitu kissa-pipo - Tutorial: Hat with cat applique

Nyt sain vihdoin aikaiseksi viime postauksen asuun kuuluneen pipon ohjeen. Kaava on omien 2- ja 3-vuotiaiden lasten mukaan tehty - heidän päänympäryksensä on reilut 50cm. Kaavaa on tosin helppo muokata eri kokoiseksi! Kun pipon tekee trikoosta, kannattaa ottaa huomioon, että pipon ympärys ei saisi olla ainakaan isompi kuin lapsen päänympärys. Parhaiten pipo pysyy päässä, kun ympärys on napakka ja joutuu vähän joustamaan. Tässä ohjeessa olevaa kaavaa pidensin hieman alkuperäisestä, koska kuvissa näkyvät pipot peittivät aika huonosti korvia eli itse ainakin tekisin seuraavalla kerralla tämän hieman pidemmän mallin. Ja kyllä, kaava on tehty Paintilla. :)

I finally had time to make this tutorial! This hat was in my last blog post and I'm happy I can share the tutorial with you! The pattern is made for my girls whose head is something between 50 and 55cm. It's easy to edit the pattern size. Just remember that tricot hat is the most comfortable when it's a bit "tight" - at least not bigger than your childs head! Thehat in the pictures is the original one and now I think it could be longer so that it would cover the ears properly. That's why I lengthened the pattern in this tutorial! So your hat will be long enough. :) The pattern is made with Paint, hehe. :)

Kissan kasvoja ja korvia tarvitset:
4 x kolmio (yksi sivu n. 6,5cm) molempia korvia varten
(+ 2 x samankokoiset tai vähän pienemmät kolmiot tukikankaasta)
2 x erivärinen, pienempi kolmio ommeltavaksi isompiin korvakappaleisiin

2 x ympyrä (n. 5,5cm) silmiä varten
2 x valkoiset pienet suikaleet silmän "säihkettä" varten
1 x kolmionmallinen nenä
6 kpl eripituisia suikaleita viiksiä varten

2 x kaavanmukaisia päällikappaleita
2 x kaavanmukaisia vuorikappaleita

For the cat's face and ears you need:
4 x trianges (each side about 6,5cm) for both ears
(+ 2 x same size of a bit smaller triangles of buckram)
2 x triangle of a different color to sew on the bigger ear parts

2 x round pieces (about 5,5cm) for eyes
2 x little white slices to make the eyes sparkle
1 x triangular nose
6 slices for the whiskers

2 x pieces made with the pattern
2 x lining pieces made with the pattern

Ota yksi päällikankainen kappale ja asettele kasvojen osat haluamillesi kohdille ja tikkaa tai ompele siksakilla. - Take one of the hat pieces and place the face parts the way you want and stitch or sew with zig zag

Ompele sekä vuori- että päällyskankaisten kappaleiden muotolaskokset. - Sew the darts of all the 4 hat pieces

Silitä tukikangaspala kahteen korvapaloista. - Iron the buckram on 2 ear pieces

Sitten ompele pienempi korvapala isompaan, siihen, jossa ei ole tukikangasta. Lopuksi ompele korvat yhteen.joko siksakilla tai tikkaamalla. - Then sew the smaller ear pieces on the ones with no buckram. Then, sew the ear pieces together by stitching or zig zag.

Kiinnitä nuppineuloilla korvat oikea puoli hatun etuosan oikeaa puolta vasten ja ompele. - Pin the ears right side on the right side of the hat's front piece and sew.

Kun korvat ovat paikoillaan, aseta hatun takakappale oikea puoli etukappaleen oikeaa puolta vasten ja ompele hatun reunat yhteen. -  After the ears are in the right place, place the hat's back piece right side on the right side of the front piece and sew the edges together.

Laita vuorikappaleet oikeat puolet vastakkain ja ompele yhteen, PAITSI, jätä johonkin kohti sellainen aukko, josta saat lopussa pujotettua hatun oikein päin. - Place the lining pieces right side on right side and sew together BUT leave a tiny gap where you can pull the hat right side outside in the end.

Aseta vuori ja päällyskangas oikeat puolet vastakkain ja saumat samojen kohdalle ja ompele koko ympärys umpeen. Sitten voit myös yrittää silittää reunoja litteiksi. - Place the lining and the upper part right side on right side and sew the whole circle. In this phase you can already try to iron the edges flat.

Muistathan vielä sen vuoriin jätetyn aukon? Nyt vedä hattu oikea puoli ulospäin aukon kautta... - Still remember the gap in the linin? Now pull the hat's right side outside through that gap...

...ja sitten tikkaa aukko siististi kiinni. - ... and then close the gap by stitching.

Nyt hattu on valmis! Voit vielä silittää hatun reunaa, jotta se näyttää siistiltä ja tasaiselta. Voi sen myös tikata halutessaan.

Now the hat is FINISHED! You can now iron the edge to make it look nice and flat. You can eve stitch it if you want.
