Hattujenompelumaraton - Hat Sewing Marathon

Hatun ompelu on melkoisen helppoa ainakin kun kaavat sun muut on selvillä. 30 hatunkaan ompelemisessa ei ole mitään monimutkaista, mutta se todella käy työstä! Viime viikolla pidin monena iltana hattumaratonia ja selkähän siitä meni kipeäksi. Ompelin hattuja Joensuun torilla pidettävää torikirppistä varten.

Onneksi myin muutakin kuin hattuja, koska niitä ei sitten loppujen lopuksi ostanut kukaan. Eräs nainen tyttärensä kanssa sanoi ostavansa yhden haettuaan käteistä, mutta häntä ei kuulunut takaisin. Ei kai se hinnasta voinut olla kiinni? Aplikoitu hahmopipo maksoi 10€ ja turbaani 6€. Luulen kuitenkin, että kirpparitapahtuma vain on hankala hatun ostolle. Yritän kuitenkin uudelleen, onhan minulla nyt paljon hattuja valmiina!

Tein myytäväksi turbaaneja sekä aplikoituja pipoja, joista toinen muistuttaa Kissa-pipoa, josta on ohjekin.

Oletko sinä ikinä myynyt mitään itse ompelemaasi? Koetko hankalaksi hinnoittelun? Minä koen! Etenkin nyt, kun mahdollisimman alhaiseksi hinnaksi kuvittelemani 10€ ei saanut ketään ostamaan pipoja.

Ei tähän kuitenkaan maailma kaadu! Nautitaanhan nyt kesästä. :)

Sewing a hat is a quite an easy thing to do. Sewing 30 hats has nothing complicated either but it's TOUGH! My back still aches after last week's hat sewing marathon. I sewed hats for a 2nd hand event which took place on the town square last Sunday.

Luckily I sold other stuff than hats too - my kids' old toys, clothes etc... None of the hats was bought that day! One lady with her kid said they will come to buy one after getting some cash but they never came back. Many people came to see the hats and said they look very nice and funny. The most expensive hat costed 10€ so I don't think the price was the problem. I just think the event was not favourable for selling handmade hats. However, I will try again. Otherwise I don't know where I can put all those hats... :)

I made turbans and hats with cat and cute monster apliqué. Kitten apliqué resembles the hat with kitten apliqué.

Have you ever sold your sewings? Do you find it difficult to name the price? I do! Especially now - I thought 10€ is a very cheap price for a handmade hat but no one bought my hats...

Syksyn ja talven luottohatut lapsille - The best autumn/winter Hats for kids

Muistattekin varmaan kissamaiset hatut, jotka tein aplikointitekniikalla? Ne olivat vielä aika kesäiset, joten syyslomareissuamme varten tein vähän talvisemmat, mutta muuten aika samanhenkiset kissahatut pinkistä fleecestä. Eurokankaan Elefantti-trikoosta tein myös villeille vipeltäjille sopivat hapsupipot. Molemmat pipot sopivat hyvin talvisempaankin keliin, koska ne peittävät korvat, niissä on vuori ja allehan voi sujauttaa vaikka kypärämyssyn.

Olen vähän suunnitellut ohjeen tekemistä hapsupiposta, olisiko sille kiinnostusta?

Nyt pitäisi viimeistään alkaa suunnitella joulahjojakin - ainakin niitä, mitkä meinaa itse ommella. Kuulemisiin!

I think some of you remember the catty hats? Those were not made for cold weather, so I made a warmer version of the catty hat for our autumn trip. The warmer version is made of fleece and the linging is tricot so as the appliques.

Active and happy kids were my inspiration when I made the tricot hats with fringe. The colorful print and the swinging fringe portrait kids in a funny way!

Both hats are suitable for winter because they cover ears well, they have lining and when it's really cold you can use balaclava (hope it's a right word!) under the hat.

I've been planning a tutorial of the fringe hat, would it be a good idea?

I should also start planning the Christmas gifts - I mean those that I'm going to sew!

Ompeluohje: Aplikoitu kissa-pipo - Tutorial: Hat with cat applique

Nyt sain vihdoin aikaiseksi viime postauksen asuun kuuluneen pipon ohjeen. Kaava on omien 2- ja 3-vuotiaiden lasten mukaan tehty - heidän päänympäryksensä on reilut 50cm. Kaavaa on tosin helppo muokata eri kokoiseksi! Kun pipon tekee trikoosta, kannattaa ottaa huomioon, että pipon ympärys ei saisi olla ainakaan isompi kuin lapsen päänympärys. Parhaiten pipo pysyy päässä, kun ympärys on napakka ja joutuu vähän joustamaan. Tässä ohjeessa olevaa kaavaa pidensin hieman alkuperäisestä, koska kuvissa näkyvät pipot peittivät aika huonosti korvia eli itse ainakin tekisin seuraavalla kerralla tämän hieman pidemmän mallin. Ja kyllä, kaava on tehty Paintilla. :)

I finally had time to make this tutorial! This hat was in my last blog post and I'm happy I can share the tutorial with you! The pattern is made for my girls whose head is something between 50 and 55cm. It's easy to edit the pattern size. Just remember that tricot hat is the most comfortable when it's a bit "tight" - at least not bigger than your childs head! Thehat in the pictures is the original one and now I think it could be longer so that it would cover the ears properly. That's why I lengthened the pattern in this tutorial! So your hat will be long enough. :) The pattern is made with Paint, hehe. :)

Kissan kasvoja ja korvia tarvitset:
4 x kolmio (yksi sivu n. 6,5cm) molempia korvia varten
(+ 2 x samankokoiset tai vähän pienemmät kolmiot tukikankaasta)
2 x erivärinen, pienempi kolmio ommeltavaksi isompiin korvakappaleisiin

2 x ympyrä (n. 5,5cm) silmiä varten
2 x valkoiset pienet suikaleet silmän "säihkettä" varten
1 x kolmionmallinen nenä
6 kpl eripituisia suikaleita viiksiä varten

2 x kaavanmukaisia päällikappaleita
2 x kaavanmukaisia vuorikappaleita

For the cat's face and ears you need:
4 x trianges (each side about 6,5cm) for both ears
(+ 2 x same size of a bit smaller triangles of buckram)
2 x triangle of a different color to sew on the bigger ear parts

2 x round pieces (about 5,5cm) for eyes
2 x little white slices to make the eyes sparkle
1 x triangular nose
6 slices for the whiskers

2 x pieces made with the pattern
2 x lining pieces made with the pattern

Ota yksi päällikankainen kappale ja asettele kasvojen osat haluamillesi kohdille ja tikkaa tai ompele siksakilla. - Take one of the hat pieces and place the face parts the way you want and stitch or sew with zig zag

Ompele sekä vuori- että päällyskankaisten kappaleiden muotolaskokset. - Sew the darts of all the 4 hat pieces

Silitä tukikangaspala kahteen korvapaloista. - Iron the buckram on 2 ear pieces

Sitten ompele pienempi korvapala isompaan, siihen, jossa ei ole tukikangasta. Lopuksi ompele korvat yhteen.joko siksakilla tai tikkaamalla. - Then sew the smaller ear pieces on the ones with no buckram. Then, sew the ear pieces together by stitching or zig zag.

Kiinnitä nuppineuloilla korvat oikea puoli hatun etuosan oikeaa puolta vasten ja ompele. - Pin the ears right side on the right side of the hat's front piece and sew.

Kun korvat ovat paikoillaan, aseta hatun takakappale oikea puoli etukappaleen oikeaa puolta vasten ja ompele hatun reunat yhteen. -  After the ears are in the right place, place the hat's back piece right side on the right side of the front piece and sew the edges together.

Laita vuorikappaleet oikeat puolet vastakkain ja ompele yhteen, PAITSI, jätä johonkin kohti sellainen aukko, josta saat lopussa pujotettua hatun oikein päin. - Place the lining pieces right side on right side and sew together BUT leave a tiny gap where you can pull the hat right side outside in the end.

Aseta vuori ja päällyskangas oikeat puolet vastakkain ja saumat samojen kohdalle ja ompele koko ympärys umpeen. Sitten voit myös yrittää silittää reunoja litteiksi. - Place the lining and the upper part right side on right side and sew the whole circle. In this phase you can already try to iron the edges flat.

Muistathan vielä sen vuoriin jätetyn aukon? Nyt vedä hattu oikea puoli ulospäin aukon kautta... - Still remember the gap in the linin? Now pull the hat's right side outside through that gap...

...ja sitten tikkaa aukko siististi kiinni. - ... and then close the gap by stitching.

Nyt hattu on valmis! Voit vielä silittää hatun reunaa, jotta se näyttää siistiltä ja tasaiselta. Voi sen myös tikata halutessaan.

Now the hat is FINISHED! You can now iron the edge to make it look nice and flat. You can eve stitch it if you want.

Kissamainen mekko ja vielä kissamaisempi pipo - Catty dress and even more catty hat

Löysin muutama viikko sitten Eurokankaan palaosastolta samaa Hello Kitty-trikoota, josta tein kesäiset asut tytöille silloin elokuussa. Kangasta jäi tämän projektinkin jälkeen jäljelle aika paljon, joten saa nähdä mitä kaikkea vielä siitä saan ommelluksi.

Pikkutyttöjen mekoissa on olkapäissä röyhelöä ja joustavaa punaista pitsinauhaa hihoissa sekä pääntiessä. Kun ompelin trikoovinonauhan pääntiehen, se jäi niin väljän ja muodottoman oloiseksi, että pujotin vielä kuminauhan. Se toi mukavasti ryhtiä ja veti pitsinauhankin sievästi rypylle.

Pipon tarina on epätavallinen: Perjantai-iltana noin klo 23 sain mekot valmiiksi ja sitten jostain tuli idea tehdä aplikaatiopipo. Sitä siinä kehittelin ja piirtelin hetken ja tulos on mielestäni aika kissamainen! Ensimmäinen kissapipo oli valmis sinä perjantain ja lauantain välisenä yönä yhden jälkeen. Piposta teen ohjeenkin piakkoin tänne blogiin!

Mitä mieltä olette kokonaisuudesta? Muistuttaako mekko liikaa yöpukua (tyttäreni kysyi "onko tämä yöpuku?" kun ensimmäisen kerran sovitin sitä hänelle) ?

Tämän saisi vielä paremmin saumurilla, mutta aaltoilevan helman saa ensin silittämällä taitteen ja sillten ompelemalla siksakkia samalla hieman venyttäen trikoota. - I know this would be even better with serger but you can make wavy hem by first ironing the fold and then sewing zigzag and stretching the tricot in the same time.

I was lucky to find one more piece of the Hello Kitty tricot a few weeks ago in the local fabric store. In summer I made summer outfits for my daughters of the same tricot. I thought that tricot was sold out but I was wrong.

The dresses of my little girls have ruffles in the shoulders. I also tried elastic lace band for the first time and added it to the sleeves and neckline. After sewing bias tape in the neckline  I noticed that the neckline still seems very loose so I wired an elastic band in it. Now it looks pretty I think.

The story of the hat is unusual: On Friday night at about 11pm when I just had finished the dresses and would normally go to sleep, I had an idea of a hat with applications. I sketched the hat for a while and just after 1am the first hat was finished! Can't say anything else than "meow!" I will post tutorial of this hat as soon as possible!

So how do you like these catty clothes? Does the dress resemble a nightgown? My daughter asked when trying it on for the first time "is this a nightgown?"

Pikkutyttöjen uudet hellehatut - Little girls' new summer hats

Ostin jokin aika sitten Fidasta kivan retron verhokapan hintaan 1,5€ ja tällaiset kesähatut sain kangaspalasta ommeltua. Kangas riitti ihan nipin napin! Lieriosassa on siis kahden kangaskerroksen välissä tukikangas, jonka ansiosta lierin saa käännettyä edessä pois silmien edestä.

Nyt aurinko voi paistaa paistamistaan, minun tyttöjen päät ja silmät ovat nyt suojassa! :)

Kauppaan käsi kädessä <3 - Walking to the nearby market hand in hand

Some time ago I bought a small cotton curtain in a second hand store. The piece of fabric costed only 1,5€ and look what nice hats I made of it! In the brim there are 2 layers of this cotton fabric and a layer of buckram between them.

Now the sun can shine as brightly as it wants and still my daughters' heads and eyes are protected! :)

Kaava ja ohjeet: Helppo Pöllö-pipo lapselle - Tutorial: Easy Owl-hat for children

Ostin Eurokankaasta tätä ihanaa Pöllöneiti-trikoota ja kun kuumeisesti mietin miten saisin pipon mallilla ilmennettyä tuota "pöllöaihetta", niin tällaisen keksin. Tosin ei tämä varmaan ihan ensimmäinen juuri tämän mallinen pipo ole maailmanhistoriassa. :)

After having bought this Owl-fabric I wanted to think up a hat model which could express the owl's character by it's shape - so this is the result. However, as this is such a simple model I don't think this is the very first one of it's kind in the world history. :)

1. KANGAS / THE FABRIC
Valitse jokin joustava kangas, mieluiten puuvillatrikoo.

Choose some elastic fabric such as cotton tricot.

2.LEIKKAAMINEN / CUTTING THE FABRIC
Piirrä kaava paperille tai mitat suoraan kankaalle. Leikkaa taitteelta 2 samanlaista kappaletta. Saumavaroja ei tarvitse lisätä.

Make a paper pattern or mark the measures straight to the fabric. Cut 2 similar pieces. You don't need to add seam allowances.

 






3. SAUMAT / THE SEAMS
Kiinnitä kappaleet oikeat puolet vastakkain nuppineuloilla. Jos sinulla ei ole saumuria, tee kuten minä ja ompele ensin suoraompeleella ja sitten siksakilla, jotta saumasta tulee kestävä.

Tee kulmien saumavaroihin aukileikkaukset, jotta hattu kääntyisi siistimmin.

Pin the pieces right side towards right side. If you don't own serger, do as I did and first stitch the seam and then sew with zigzag to make the seam strong.

Make little slits to the seam allowances in the corners to help turning the hat rightwards.

Ompele mustalla merkityltä alalta suoraompeleella sekä siksakilla - Sew the marked edges by stitching and zigzagging

4. REUNAN KÄÄNNE  / FOLDING THE HAT HEM

Ota esiin silitysrauta ja taita hatun reunaa noin 1 cm silitysrautaa apuna käyttäen. Tehdäksesi kaksoiskäänteen, joka on todella siistin näköinen, taita sitten vielä noin 2-3cm ja halutessasi kiinnitä reuna samalla nuppineuloilla. Viimeistele hattu tikkaamalla reuna.

Fold by ironing 1cm of the edge. Then, to make double fold hem, fold 2-3cm more and pin the edge. Then finish the edge by stitching.

Käännä ensin 1cm - First, fold the fabric for 1cm

Hatut molemmille tyttärille kuviollisesta fleecesta - My daughters' new hats made of print fleece

 

Löysin Eurokankaan palalaarista aika pienen kaistaleen lumiukko-aiheista fleecea ja tällaiset hatut niistä syntyivät! Myös vuori on samaa fleecea. Kiinnitysnauhassa on neppari. Tytöt tykkäävät hatuista tosi paljon ja niitä voi pitää varmaan suurimman osan talvea - kovimmilla pakkasilla kuitenkin tarvitaan vielä paksumpi hattu.


These hats are made of 2 layers of lovely printed fleece and there's a snap fastener in the fleece band. My daughters love their new hats with snowman-print! I think they can wear these hats almost anytime this winter - only when it get's reaaaally cold like -10 they will need a special warm hat.
